What is AirTime monetization?

AirTime is a system that rewards publishers and website visitors with TUBE tokens. Visitors with the AirTime Browser Extension installed generate AirTime and are thus rewarded based on the time they spend on any web page. In turn, the publishers earn based on the total time that these visitors spend on their website or social account. The rate of payouts is not fixed as the revenue pool is distributed in real-time across all concurrent users globally.

The TUBE tokens are traded on several open market exchanges, for example, Bittrex. Its dollar value is the result of supply and demand. These earned TUBEs are soon spendable online as well as in physical stores, with the upcoming BitTube Debit Card. Since everyone will always have some TUBEs available, it could be used as a continual source for shopping discounts, for example.

When users running the AirTime Browser Extension visit a new publisher that is unknown to the system, instantly a dedicated wallet is created for the domain or social account. On the other end, website owners have the option to install an AirTime module, such that all of their visitors can generate some AirTime for their website without having to force them to install the extension.

Originally, AirTime was introduced exclusively to the bit.tube video platform. In this article, the system was explained for this particular use case and should serve as a helpful reference guide. In summary, a 45% share of the block reward is reserved for AirTime payouts. As content is consumed, the distribution to publishers and viewers (visitors) is based on total watch time (=AirTime), proportional to the grand total AirTime (for creators and viewers each) per block.

To conclude: with this system, the visitors are not bothered by ads and needn’t worry about missed income for the publishers. This means that the publishers themselves can focus on designing the best possible user experience for their visitors without any ads directing them away from their website or social page. It’s a mutually beneficial, ad-free, win-win situation.
